We all hear about productivity being the key to changing your life and business success. We all know that procrastination is the thief of dreams and the ball and chain of goal setting, but there are some fundamental “hacks” and tips to moving forward just a little every day, and making sure that we are one step closer to that picture we have in our minds for our business (and life). Here are few that I have collected along the entrepreneurial journey, and I am sure that there are many that can be added, but it’s a good start !

PUT IT DOWN ON PAPER TO do list Putting it down on paper forces you to organise your thoughts, and also break your task down into bite sized, manageable tasks

START YOUR DAY WITH THE MOST UNPLEASANT TASK FIRST If you get the unpleasant task behind you, the rest of your day will seem easy by comparison

DON’T LET OTHERS OWN YOUR AGENDA One of the best pieces of advice I received along the entrepreneurial journey was making sure that I was defining my OWN agenda, and not allowing others to dictate how I spent my day. As such, I started checking my email AFTER I had achieved items on my agenda first, so that I was not waylaid by other people’s priorities

GET MORE SLEEP Sleep is essential to health, awareness, mindset, energy levels and the ability to learn. Without it, you are starting the battle with one hand behind your back – why would you choose to do that?

DONT WAIT FOR IT TO BE PERFECT One of the hardest thing about being an entrepreneur is that we are hard on ourselves, and always want things to be “perfect” (if there is suhc a thing!). If we wait, we will never launch. Get it out there, 80% perfect is fine, and then fine tune as you go!

SET A TIME LIMIT FOR EACH TASK Parkinson’s Law says that a task will expand into the time allocated to it. Use this to your advantage, and set a time limit for each task – and then move on.

MINIMISE DISTRACTION Sounds obvious but it is amazing how many people working from home don’t allocate a “space” to their work. A “quiet” area where the TV is not playing, or the kids are not building blocks, or your partner is not cooking dinner…..somewhere where the brain can focus fuly in the task at hand. An easy fix….with huge immediate results

BUILD IN PERSONAL TIME Make a “date” for your personal time too – this would include relaxation or exercise, or socialising. It is imperative that you feed your soul as much as you feed your business growth – as the engine behind your business, it is important that you are fire up and motivated and refreshed at each turn in the road.

Patience BE PATIENT Set yourself realistic goals where you can measure your success… and don’t beat yourself up if it’s not perfect, just keep moving forward.

LEARN TO SAY NO Learning to say no is one of the best skills you will develop. No to new commitments, or distractions, or interruptions….. it will keep your focussed to your own commitments and give you time to work

FOCUS ON YOUR PASSION Make sure that the area your are investing your energy actually fires you up. Ensure that your business is aligned with your core values and contributes to you making a difference. Ensure that the project motivates you and you feel excited to make it happen. Without passion, you are pushing uphill.

KEEP THE RIGHT COMPANY I LOVE the saying “you are the sum of the 5 people you spend the most time with” – you will hear me use it again and again. This is the true for both your business and your personal life. From a business perspective, make sure that you are keeping company with people that motivate and inspire you, and have the knowledge and skills to help you move this project forward. Watch the company you keep !

Small-celebration1-300x199CELEBRATE SMALL SUCCESSES Small celebration We are all human and need to pat ourselves on the back every now and then. It keeps us motivated, and it reminds us that we ARE moving forward – and focusing on those things we HAVE achieved, rather than those we haven’t. Learn to celebrate the small successes and milestones. It creates a positive mindset.

JUST DO IT! We’ve all heard the Nike slogan used over and over, and there is a reason for it – fight procrastination and keep moving forward. Make the decision – JUST DO IT!
